Statement Regarding Recognition by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA)
In response to recurring inquiries from the esports community, particularly players of electronic football, regarding recognition by FIFA — which would allow Tunisian players to participate in major international electronic football events organized by FIFA — the Tunisian Esports Federation wishes to provide the following clarifications:
Since the current executive board assumed office, it has engaged directly with the relevant stakeholders:
🔵 A file detailing the Federation’s activities in organizing electronic football competitions was submitted to FIFA’s Electronic Football Committee (FIFAe), along with several correspondences and discussions held during the years 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. FIFAe repeatedly expressed its willingness to include Tunisia among the officially recognized countries eligible to participate in its competitions. However, it emphasized the requirement for written approval from the Tunisian Football Federation, which remains FIFA's sole recognized partner within Tunisia.
The FIFAe Committee appreciated the Tunisian Esports Federation’s consistent efforts in organizing electronic football tournaments since 2021 and requested direct coordination with the Tunisian Football Federation to secure the necessary written approval.
🔵 Correspondence sent to the Tunisian Football Federation on August 4, 2021
🔵 Correspondence sent on August 10, 2022
🔵 Meeting held between the President of the Tunisian Esports Federation and the President of the Tunisian Football Federation on August 24, 2022, which resulted in preliminary approval for coordination with FIFA for the 2022 World Cup.
🔵 Submission of a detailed file on January 26, 2023
🔵 Further correspondence on January 2, 2024
🔵 Additional correspondence on February 12, 2025
🔵 Most recent correspondence sent on July 2, 2025
🔵 Several meetings with the Secretary-General of the Tunisian Football Federation between 2022 and 2024 to ensure the recognition file is submitted to FIFA
🔵 A meeting on July 2, 2025, between a delegation from the Technical Department of the Esports Federation and the Secretary-General of the Tunisian Football Federation, during which a request was made to review and process the previously submitted documents before the 2025 registration deadlines expire
We are currently awaiting a formal response from the Tunisian Football Federation to enable our national team in the disciplines of Electronic Football and Rocket League to represent Tunisia in upcoming international events.
🔴 Regarding EAFC: Since the termination of the partnership between FIFA and the game’s developer, the recognition process is no longer tied to national football federations as of 2023. Consequently, we have engaged directly with EA Sports. On October 16, 2023, EA Sports informed us of a delay in reviewing our application. Upon follow-up, they cited legal considerations and the market size in Tunisia (in terms of game engagement and internal resources) as the main reasons for postponement. We continue to pursue negotiations with the company to obtain official recognition and secure participation in their events as soon as possible.
